About this item
An original oil painting on canvas, 60 × 80 cm, executed by Carlos Lehder in Heidelberg in autumn 2021. Signed C. Lehder / Heidelberg 2021 on the reverse of the canvas.
The subject is the Colombian coffee country of Quindío — the region of the artist's childhood — painted from memory. The palette is unusually warm for Lehder (whose later Colombian paintings, executed after his 2022 return, use a cooler green-blue register); Heidelberg 2021 is a body of work characterised by earth tones, ochre, and warm greens.
Per the correspondent record, this painting was executed during Lehder's residence at a Catholic-run transitional accommodation outside Heidelberg in his first eighteen months of freedom. The subject — coffee country from a memory that was thirty-three years old — is characteristic of the Heidelberg period.
The painting is unframed as sold. Buyer may commission the walnut-and-brass frame illustrated (a Heidelberg artisan is available; approximate additional cost EUR 1,200).
This item's proceeds fund at-risk children's art programmes in Colombia — 50% is directed to the Federico Lehder foundation.
