Every published account of Carlos Lehder ends at Norman’s Cay. The family that lived through Norman’s Cay, and the thirty-three years afterwards, has never had its story written down.
I spent 2024 and 2025 with the women and children of the Carlos Lehder story. This piece is my composite portrait of what it was actually like — from the inside — to be a wife, a partner or a child in that family, across the seventies, the extradition, the US federal years, and the return.
Included: the exact identity and current whereabouts of Carlos’s Cuban-American first wife Yemel Nacel, whose story the standard sources drop in 1979; the identity of the Colombian second partner of the Posada Alemana years; the specific number of children (it is not the number the internet says); and a careful account of what each child grew up to do.
Two of the children agreed to be identified on the record for the first time.
